How Pornography Harms: What Today’S Teens, Young Adults, Parents, and Pastors Need to Know Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 78 ratings

Pornography is menacing people, relationships, and society, and this book has the research and stories to prove it.

John D. Foubert, Ph.D., an interdisciplinary scholar who has studied sexual violence since 1993, shares the life stories of more than twenty people directly affected by pornography. He also interviews scholars and explains how pornography affects our brains.

In examining the many ways pornography is devouring the God-given sexual health of the Internet generation, he highlights its connection to sexual violence and how it ruins lives.

He also focuses on who makes pornography and their motives, recent trends in pornography, and how pornography is changing the way people have sex.

Perhaps most importantly, he explains what we can do to confront pornography in our own lives, the lives of our loved ones, and in society.

Whether you are a teen, young adult, a parent, pastor, scholar, or you are just curious about what pornography does to people, your conscience will be shocked and your points of view deeply challenged by what Foubert has uncovered about the reality of todays pornography.

Review

It is time for all of us to be educated about the harmful effects of pornography and take a stand to protect children and those who are unaware. Dr. Foubert is a world-leader and academic in this area. This book is an important reference that all need to read.Andrew Doan, MD, Ph.D.Commander, U.S. NavyHead, Dept. of Mental Health Addictions and Resilience ResearchNaval Medical Center San Diego

Pornography is a pandemic plague wreaking untold havoc. This well-written, well-researched book is a powerful prescription. Dr. Foubert hits the issue from all sides, including the biblical, spiritual dimension and gives hope and practical help for avoiding and overcoming this spiritual cancer. Every person, especially every Christian, needs to be armed with the truth in this book. Read it, apply it, and pass it on to others.
Dr. Mark HitchcockAssociate Professor of Biblical Exposition, Dallas Theological SeminarySenior Pastor, Faith Bible Church in Edmond OK

This book is about an unsettling truth, one that requires immediate attention from all advocates of social justice, regardless of their particular faith. John Foubert's analysis is an important tool for those seeking to get involved in the ongoing struggle to curb one of the world's most compelling social problems. He should be commended for "telling us like it is" and for his never ending dedication to eliminating pornographic materials from our lives.
Walter S. DeKeseredy, Ph.D.Anna Dean Carlson Chair of Social SciencesDirector of the Research Center on Violence, West Virginia University

"How Pornography Harms fills a big need in our fight against pornography. There are a great many books that tell us why the Christian community should be against pornography, but John Foubert provides the intelligent reasons to fight the battle and supplies the ammunition to conquer this devastating issue."
Josh D. McDowell, Author/Speaker

Dr. John Foubert has accurately described the harm and toxicity pornography wreaks upon individuals and couples, and presents the perspective not only of scholars, but also of those directly affected. This book not only provides a warning, but also offers solutions we would do well to follow in addressing what has become the major public health crisis of our time.

The absolute BEST BOOK on the subject of pornography I have read to date! And I have read a slew of them. I was married to a Psychiatrist for 9.5 years and can count the number of times I fell with my eyes during those years but after marriage, it’s a different story. This was a God-send to me! I cannot recommend it strongly enough!!! He takes the guesswork out of the subject. He handles it with excellence. He doesn’t pull punches.

Fella’s, do yourself the favor and purchase this! It can change your life as it has mine, even being single after an incredibly intimate marriage!

It just blows my mind on how so many people sweep this subject under the rug or worse defend it by saying something like boys will be boys. Sexual immorality clearly by scientific data is increasing in horrifying leaps and bounds. Although evil may not "know" any boundaries, God has warned humanity of the first judgement by water 🌊 and the second end time judgement shall be by fire 🔥 - THEREFORE REPENT FOR THE DAY IS NEAR!!

Dr. Foubert tackles the subject matter head-on in this book. He is very upfront and forthcoming about the ramifications of using this addictive product. He deals with how it is currently impacting our society and how it will shape our future. It is a must read for any man and even more importantly, any parents. The war on our children has been a slow, silent battle up to this point. Take the time to really read and comprehend the consequences of what this book so eloquently breaks down for us. It si also important to note that this not some religiously biased perspective that only focuses on Biblical perspective. It is backed with lots of real world experience and scientific data from Christian and non-Christian sources.

I haven't finished the book yet, but certainly not because of any lack in the research or writing. It's simply that the book is so thorough in describing the abusive nature of the pornography industry and the devastating effects of pornography on our families and loved ones, that I can only get through a little bit at a time. As much as I want to turn away from the truth, this book is so critical in helping us understand the urgent and immediate need to change public opinion and policy regarding pornography - and to help our kids remain unharmed by our pornography-saturated culture.

Everyone needs to read this book. It is eye opening and terrifying. The harm done by pornography goes way beyond anything I could have ever imagined. Most academically written books lose me in their citations and technical bs. This book cuts through the crap and gets to the real effects of pornography. It should be required reading in every church and school in the modern world.

Unless your family has been ripped apart due to the pornography use of a family member then you truly can't grasp the full effects of the devastation it can cause. The book is a great resource for anyone willing to educate themselves on its toxic effects.
