    The role of an accident reconstructionist is to provide a forensic conclusion to the cause and events of an accident. Some accidents may involve passenger vehicles or consumer products, such as an ATV.

    Many highway traffic accidents occur as a result of sudden tire failures. One particular kind of tire failure is called tread separation, and it can be especially dangerous in some circumstances. This kind of failure involves the outer steel belt layer of the tire peeling away violently, often without causing the tire to go flat.

    During 1990, the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA) with the assistance of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) published the first standard for ATVs referred to as ANSI/SVIA-1-1990.     Lorne G. Everett, PhD, DSc, CGW, PH, PH-GW, BCES, HON.D.WRE, FASCE, FAWRA, FASTM, is an Environmental Consultant with over 40 years of experience in site characterization and remediation of Soils and Groundwater.

    Background - Dr. Everett served as the Chief Scientist at Haley & Aldrich, Shaw Environmental, ARCADIS, and Metcalf & Eddy Inc. He is a retired Professional Researcher (Level VII) in the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) and Past Director of the Vadose Zone Monitoring Laboratory at UCSB. The University of California describes full professor Level VII as “reserved for scholars of great distinction.”

    Dr. Everett is an internationally recognized expert who has conducted extensive research on Subsurface Characterization and Remediation. He is Chairman of the ASTM Task Committee on Groundwater and Vadose Zone Monitoring.     Jurors jumped as the wild boar in the motorcycle headlights suddenly filled the large screen in front of them.A week later they awarded the motorcyclist several million dollars against Caltrans for not mitigating a chronic wild pig problem on Highway One in Monterey County. The jury found that the motorcyclist had a 0.10 blood alcohol level and was negligent, but that our HD-video visibility study showed that even an unimpaired driver could not have seen the pig in time to avoid it.
