George O. Waring, III is an Ophthalmic Surgeon with 30 years of experience in
Vision Correction Surgery, RK, LASIK, Intraocular Lens Implants, and Cataract and Corneal Surgery. Dr. Waring is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), of the Royal College of Ophthalmology (FRCOphth, Britain), and of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (Lifetime Achievement Honor Award). He served as Professor of Ophthalmology at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta from 1979-2004 and is currently Professor of Ophthalmology Emeritus.
Dr. Waring was Editor-in-Chief of
The Journal of Refractive Surgery, (1989 – 2010) and the Journal awards the Waring Medal for Editorial Excellence annually. He has served on 15 other Editorial Boards, including the
American Journal of Ophthalmology. Publications include over 250 peer reviewed original articles, 60 book chapters, and 250 brief communications. His authoritative 1300-page textbooks,
Refractive Keratotomy for Myopia and Astigmatism, and
Corneal Disorders: Diagnosis and Management (with Howard Leibowitz, MD) are standard references.
He has given more than 35 named lectures at universities and professional societies and has spoken at more than 600 ophthalmic meetings in over 60 countries on 6 continents. His awards include four from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, 5 from the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and 2 gold medals from the Pan Arab Council of Ophthalmology.
He has been active in public communication concerning ophthalmology and has appeared on

McNeil/Lehrer News Hour, the

CNN.
