Accident Reconstruction For Off-Road All Terrain Vehicles (ATV's)
During 1990, the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA) with the assistance of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) published the first standard for ATVs referred to as ANSI/SVIA-1-1990. During 2001, ANSI/SVIA revised this standard referred to as standard ANSI/SVIA 1-2001. The standard was revised again during 2007 and again in 2010 and is referred to as standard ANSI/SVIA 1-2010.

Synopsis: The Basic Process Of A Traffic Accident Reconstruction
A Traffic Accident Reconstruction is a process by which an engineer determines from all available information and evidence how and why a traffic accident occurred including but not limited to pre-impact and post impact vehicular velocity vectors, pre-impact and post impact vehicular direction vectors, vehicular change in velocity (Delta-V), momentum vectors, vehicles' point of impact on the roadway, vehicular visibility by a driver, vehicular crash data retrieval reports if assessable, accident factors and causes.

    The Physics Of Collision
When we drive our vehicles down the road, we are driving them at a certain velocity and direction. All vehicles have weight and mass to the order of a few hundred pounds for a motorcycle, a few thousand pounds for a large SUV or luxury car or several tons for a tractor-trailer truck. When our vehicles move at speed down the road, they create energy by virtue of their mass and forward velocity

Imaging Forensics: When to hire an expert
I was recently retained on a civil case just a month before the trial date. When called about the case, I was told that the firm never thought of hiring a forensic photographer until one showed up in opposing counsel’s expert list. In this case, I needed to photograph the scene of an accident to depict what could be seen from a specific perspective, at a specific time of day, under specific lighting conditions.

Imaging Forensics: So, What's the Story on Resolution?
My post on Synchronizing Video has generated a few comments related to image resolution. Three people, all of whom have a significant background in forensic imaging, have made rather divergent comments. Multiple topics are being addressed, from crime scene, accident and evidence photography to latent print photography to SWGFAST guidelines/requirements to the resolution of video security camera systems.

Imaging Forensics: In Photography and Video - We Want the Original Images
It always surprises me how often retaining attorneys send me digital copies of scanned color laser prints of photos in PDF format, or transcoded video files to do an analysis.

Imaging Forensics: Is Your Expert An Expert?
On a recent case opposing counsel hired a forensic photographer. The case involved an accident at night in which visibility was a key factor.

Recommendations from the National Academy of Sciences Regarding the Forensic Discipline of Bloodstain Pattern Analysis
Most of us are familiar with the recent report from the National Academy of Sciences regarding the current state of forensic science. The section of the 254-page report that addresses the forensic discipline of bloodstain pattern analysis comprises fewer than two pages, yet succeeds, I believe, in making some astute points.
