David Lopez is a Texas and California attorney and former law professor who has served as an Expert on Issues of Mexican Law since 1997. He is a co-author of the leading treatise in the field, MEXICAN LAW (Oxford 2004), as well as other related publications.
Much of Mr. Lopez's expert work has been in cases that arise in Mexico but that are brought in the United States. Attorneys often hire him in connection with forum non conveniens motions and summary judgment motions. His role is to aid the parties and court in understanding Mexican law and the Mexican legal system.
Mr. Lopez has testified by affidavit, in deposition and in court. His cases have involved issues ranging from contract matters to personal injury matters (airplane crashes, helicopter crashes, auto accidents) to constitutional matters. His testimony has been used in both state and federal courts.
Despite work on numerous cases over the years, Mr. Lopez's testimony as an expert on Mexican law has never been challenged on Daubert grounds or under analogous state law. He has testified on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants.
