Gerald W. Smetana, MD, Board Certified in Internal Medicine, is a General Internist with over 36 years of experience in an academic primary care practice at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He is also a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School where he has taught internal medicine to medical house staff and also teaches extensively to practicing clinicians in continuing medical education settings. Dr. Smetana is a Master of the American College of Physicians.

Practicing in an outpatient setting, Dr. Smetana cares for a panel of patients that is weighted towards those with multiple chronic illnesses and high disease complexity. In addition to all aspects of office based general internal medicine, his areas of interest include Preoperative Medical Evaluation, Hypertension, and Headache.

Dr. Smetana has been repeatedly selected as a Best Doctor in a national survey and has received a national award for scholarship in medical education. He publishes in the peer reviewed medical literature and medical texts, has edited textbooks, and has helped to develop national guidelines on topics in internal medicine. He has been invited to deliver seminars and presentations on various topics within his area of expertise nationally and internationally.

Litigation Support - Dr. Smetana reviews cases for both plaintiffs and defendants and has testified at deposition and at trial as an expert on numerous occasions in most states in the eastern United States. Dr. Michael Blumenkrantz was educated at Columbia College and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He spent three years in post-graduate training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, trained in London at the National Heart Hospital and Royal Post-Graduate Hammersmith. Dr. Blumenkrantz continued his training in Nephrology at the Wadsworth VAH and UCLA, worked at the Pritikin Center and he remained in academic medicine, for 10 years where he did extensive clinical research and achieved the rank of Associate Professor of Medicine, (step three, in residence), at UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Blumenkrantz became nationally and internationally known for his work in kidney disease, dialysis and clinical nutrition, (80 + publications), lecturing and discussing cases nationally as well as an invited visiting Professor at numerous international institutions.

Dr. Blumenkrantz is a Fellow of the American College of Medicine and Clinical Nutrition. He is also a certified Nutritional Support Physician. “Dr. B” has been in clinical practice for over 30 years where he enjoys seeing patients with a broad range of often complicated and complex medical problems, he emphasizes preventive medicine and nutrition in his practice with a warm and engaging personality.

Dr. Blumenkrantz has been doing medical/legal evaluations for over 25 years, (over 700 cases), his areas of expertise include internal medicine, metabolic disorders, diabetes and diabetic kidney disease, critical care, geriatric/nursing home, clinical nutrition and TPN as well as kidney disease, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and hypertension. He has testified in approximately 170 depositions and 40 trials.

I am an Emergency Medicine (EM) physician and have been practicing EM full-time for over 15 years. I currently work in freestanding Emergency Departments (EDs) in both urban and rural areas, which are EDs not attached to a hospital. I am board certified with the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) and also hold a Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) with a specialization on subjects such as hypothermia, frostbite, heat stroke, altitude illness, and animal attacks/envenomations. I am currently a candidate for a Diploma in Dive & Marine Medicine (DiDMM) with a further focus on dive injuries and marine medicine.

I earned my medical degree (MD) at the University of Oklahoma and completed my EM residency at the University of Florida - Jacksonville, a designated level 1 trauma center, which is the highest designation for trauma centers for the sickest trauma patients. I have worked for several years in a variety of settings such as trauma centers, academic institutions, community settings, freestanding EDs as well as rural hospitals. Additionally, I served as a faculty member at an EM residency program for 2 years and continue to teach EM residents while on shift.

I have 2 publications, one on ozone toxicity and another on hereditary angioedema. I have given 29 lectures to EM residents, including 9 lectures on wilderness medicine. Lastly, I am the co-inventor of a novel endotracheal device (RSI Prime, LLC; patent pending) that incorporates an adapted carbon dioxide detector with a modified bougie (an adjunct for difficult airways). As such, this endeavor has led me to extensively research literature regarding the bougie, giving me a deep and thorough knowledge of the bougie. 

My focus is on writing bulletproof expert witness reports that are detailed yet succinct, well-formatted and easy to understand.
