Smith Aquatic Safety Service (SASS) was created in 1981, upon Dr. Smith's retirement from 25 year's service in the U.S. Coast Guard, to provide aquatic safety training. At retirement Dr. Smith was Chief, 2nd Coast Guard Boating Safety Division, St. Louis, MO, responsible for all federal boating safety activities in 15 primary states.
Litigation Support - In 1981 Dr. Smith first testified as an expert. Both aspects of SASS have grown markedly, with Dr. Smith being retained in hundreds of legal cases, for plaintiff and defense while also training thousands of aquatic safety/rescue personnel. He has been qualified in numerous state and federal court cases as a boating accident reconstructionist.
SASS provides consultation and related services to law firms in aquatics cases, plus water rescue and boating safety training seminars for fire, police, lifeguarding and EMS providers throughout North America.

Jim Allen provides litigation support for Boating Accidents involving the operation, maintenance, navigation of vessels, and dock safety. His experience encompasses the operation of vessels, both commercial and recreational in and upon the high seas, inland waterways, western rivers, inland lakes and rivers.
Jim Allen has thirty years of experience in the U S Coast Guard. Directly and indirectly involved in thousands of search and rescue cases. Conducted investigations when necessary, as well as inspected and issued citations for pleasure boats, commercial vessels, marinas, chemical facilities, bridges, tow boats and barges. Jim Allen has 23 years experience serving as a consultant and expert witness in litigation support for both plaintiff and defendant throughout the United States.
Capt. Gregory Daley has over 40 years of Marine Operations experience, 10 years as an oilfield service vessel captain on OSV's around the world. He has operational and command experience with commercial workboats, tankers, cargo ships, sailboats, and powered yachts. Capt. Daley has commanded oilfield workboats in US, Mexican, South American, Asian, and African waters and has accomplished several trans-ocean deliveries.
Capt. Daley holds three Mechanical Engineering and Nuclear Engineering Degrees from MIT. He has an MBA from OSU. He has successfully completed many formal maritime classes, including operations, search and rescue, instruction, weather, and command. These classes were provided by maritime schools and in association with his volunteer work with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and volunteer disaster assistance with FEMA.
Consulting and Litigation Support - Capt. Daley brings an analytical, operations-based approach to maritime consulting and litigation. His expertise includes Marine Operations and Safety, including regulations, manning, navigation, personnel baskets, oilfield services, and marine engineering. His experience includes offshore and inland, domestic and international, with all size vessels.
