Radiology is a critical component of most medical care. As a consequence of this, legal cases in which individuals are claiming injuries will frequently have imaging studies as a central aspect of the record. Demonstrative evidence can be used as an important instrument in helping to lay the proper foundation for creating a compelling and memorable argument in the presentation of a legal case

Vertebral compression fractures associated with osteoporosis occur with increasing frequency as skeletal mass and bone strength diminish with the aging process (1). These fractures generally involve collapse and compression of the vertebral body, associated with a wedge deformity, which may lead to kyphotic angulation of the spine (2). In the United States alone, it is estimated that one-quarter of white postmenopausal women are affected by fractures of the vertebrae (3), and among persons 65 years of age or older, vertebral fractures account for 150,000 hospital admissions in the United States annually (4).
