Art Appraisal - MFA specializes in writing art appraisal reports that are compliant with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). MFA appraisal reports document, value and assist in the collection protection of personal properties, based on current market data.
Art Advisory - MFA offers advisory services to assist clients in building collections of distinction, personal reflection and value. Market trends, availabilities, guidance and research on artists and works provide clients with the necessary information for making collection decisions.
Appraisal Review and Management - MFA provides credible, objective report reviews that are written according to current appraisal review methodology and are compliant with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). An appraisal review may be written to determine USPAP compliance, appropriate comparable sales or data, determine proper workfile support, conclude an opinion of value, or any other intended use and scope of work for a review assignment.
Melanie Modica, ASA, ARM-PP, CFLC, is the Principal and Managing Member of MFA. She is an Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers. Ms. Modica specializes in Personal Property and Fine Art. She holds an Appraisal Review & Management (ARM) designation for formally reviewing personal property appraisal reports. A leader in accrediting with the ARM designation, she is only the fourth person designated under personal property in the American Society of Appraisers (ASA)
Ms. Modica currently serves as the ARM Education Chair. She is a senior instructor for ARM Principles of Valuation (POV) courses for the ASA. In 2019, she was the primary developer for the Appraisal Review Manual, written in accordance with the International Valuation Standards (IVS) for a middle-eastern government.
As the Education Vice President for the Forensic Expert Witness Association (FEWA), she develops, produces and organizes educational offerings to the membership that consists of experts from all professions and fields. She is a FEWA Houston chapter Board member and serves on the National Conference Committee.
