Dr. Patricia J. Bartzak, DNP, RN, CMSRN, is a highly educated Bedside Registered Nurse with an active practice in a level one trauma center for a leading academic medical center in the northeast. Dr. Bartzak has more than 15 years of bedside experience with multiple nursing certifications including trauma and burn care, as well as cardiac and advanced cardiac life support. In addition to her current role, Dr. Bartzak has practice experience with cardiac, stable ventilator and geriatric-psychiatry patients.
Dr. Bartzak has a program of research with the veteran population in the area of post-traumatic stress disorder. She is a column editor for a peer-reviewed nursing journal and frequently submits and has been published in MedSurg Matters, the journal of the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses. Dr. Bartzak is well-versed in research protocols, and remains current on a number of research trials. Dr. Bartzak maintains CITI certification and is a voting member of an Institutional Review Board (IRB).
Dr. Bartzak was selected as one of 39 registered nurses in the country to rewrite the Scope & Standards of Nursing (ANA, 2015). In addition to this contribution, she was the lead author in the Scope & Standards inaugural article published in American Nurse Today (July, 2015).

He serves as Chief of Staff at The Outpatient Surgery Center in Coral Springs, Florida.

Professional Associations and Experience - Ms. Simmons-Grab has taken an active role in the rehabilitation industry on a national level by serving on the Board of Directors for the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (IARP) for six years (1997-2004), and on the state level by serving on the Board of Directors for the Rhode Island Brain Injury Association (2000-2004). Following a neurological event such as a traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular event, multiple sclerosis, etc., the medical needs of the person are of primary importance initially, for purposes of survival. As medical treatment proceeds and the survival needs of the person are met, the team of rehabilitation professionals will be established in an attempt to improve upon function performance in order to sustain quality of life. The rehabilitation team may be composed of a physician, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, recreational therapist, vocational specialist, case manager, the psychologist, social worker, and nurse, to name several. It is often during this tim e that additional medical and rehabilitative needs are identified through diagnosis or observation by member s of the rehabilitation team.
