The Handbook describes the Medical informatics with which healthcare purchasers and providers can assess the relative quality and cost efficiencies of hospitals’ and physicians' performances. The Medical Value Index uses six industry-standard outcomes of clinical quality and cost efficiencies for inpatient and ambulatory facility medical care. Private and public purchasers use the MVI to assess the relative value of US hospitals and their Clinical Services (cardiology etc.) using public Medicare data. Individual physicians’ quality and efficiencies are quantified using each hospital’s All-Payer data.
