The corporation retained to provide healthcare services to inmates is responsible for hiring the staff to care for the inmate population, which can include physicians, Physician Assistants (PAs), advanced nurse practitioners, and staff nurses.

Suicide is a threat to all persons (inmates as well as staff) involved in corrections. The rates of inmate suicide are far higher than the national averages and even higher still for special populations such as juvenile and LGBTI inmates.
